The best cruises are Hawaiian cruises!

Best Times to Go On Hawaii Cruises

The winter months are the best times to visit Hawaii, particularly during the Christmas season which is December through the first week of January. This period is the best for whale-watching and it is also when it rains the most and flights get more expensive. Traveling in summer is popular for family travel, although only Norwegian offer cruises during that time.

May through June and September through mid-December is Shoulder season. The weeks between Thanksgiving and mid-December are really good times for deals. April, September, and October has a wide range of cruise ships visiting the islands.

Hawaii Cruise Itineraries

Making itinerary decision is between a weeklong cruise, exclusively visiting Hawaii Islands or even a longer adventure, usually from North America. The main benefit of cruising from the mainland is that you’ll most likely eliminate flights, although you’ll be adding as much as eight days at sea to your voyage time.

When making plans for a cruise to Hawaii, you have three basic options:

  1. A round-trip from Honolulu
  2. Round-trip from the U.S., Canada or Mexico
  3. Repositioning

Hawaii Cruise Ports

  • Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Kona, Hawaii
  • Hilo, Hawaii
  • Maul, Hawaii
  • Kauai, Hawaii

Tips for Hawaii Cruise

  1. Carefully plan your flight: flights beginning at the East Coast connect in Los Angeles or San Francisco, and this means you are adding five extra hours to the six hours it will take from maybe New York or Boston. If you are traveling with kids, you can spare one or two nights in California to take a break.
  2. Be ready to transfer: The Aloha Tower Marketplace which is Oahu’s cruise port, is situated about fifteen minutes from the airport, and transporting yourself from the airport to the hotels around the area which is roughly seven miles, is a snap when you take a taxi, shuttle service or rent a car.
  3. Consider a before or after cruise stay in Oahu
  4. All beaches in Hawaii are public access
  5. Expect to pay more for virtually everything – Hawaii is really expensive, the food, gas, tours etc. Going back to your cruise ship for meals is not a bad idea if you find it convenient though. If you want to spend a day at the beach or shop in the towns close to the port, you should do it yourself by taking a free shuttle bus, walk, take a taxi or rent a car and just skip the expensive tour.

    6. Purchase a U.S. National Park Pass: most of the key attractions in Hawaii are national historic sites and national parks. If you have plans to rent a car and visit these places on your own, you should purchase a National Park Pass.

Tips to Enjoy a Beautiful Mediterranean Cruise

When you cruise the Mediterranean, it allows you to visit different countries and soak in different cultures in a short period of time.

The core season is April through October, though some ships still offer winter sun trips for visitors. Prices are super high in July and August when European schools are on vacation and cruises get extremely busy during this period. The major ports where cruises begin and end are Genoa, Barcelona, Civitavecchia, and Southampton though some lines give passengers room to join and leave at any other port on the route, thereby making Mediterranean cruises diverse and flexible.

Types of Mediterranean Cruise

Cruising in the Mediterranean offers many choices and the following are the main ones for travelers:

7-night Central Mediterranean cruises:

These are usually circular routes calling on similar ports over the summer. The itinerary usually calls on different places in Southern France, Balearic Islands, Italy, Sicily, Malta or Tunisia. These routes enable passengers to join and leave at ports closest to their destination. Lines like MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises often offer these itineraries.

7-night Eastern Mediterranean cruises:

These operate mostly to and from Venice and visit places in Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, Turkey, and Crete, although some will follow the base of Italy and go to destinations in Sicily and Italy. A lot of cruise lines including Cunard, P&O Cruises, Princess and MSC Cruises offer this option.

7-night Greek islands and Turkey:

These cruises sail out of ports like Athens and seek exploration in a number of Greek islands as well as different ports in Turkey. These are popular itineraries for some of the smaller lines such as Seabourn and Silversea.

12 to 14-night Mediterranean cruises from the United Kingdom or Northern Europe:

These trips are often longer due to the fact that it takes a number of sea days to get into the Mediterranean and this usually includes stops in France, Portugal, and Gibraltar. Certain lines like Royal Caribbean, Cunard, Fred Olsen, Princess, and Celebrity offer this type of cruise.

14-night (or more) cruises from ports in the United States:

At the beginning and end of the Mediterranean season, most cruise lines usually move their ships to places with warmer climates such as the Caribbean and South America. These lines combine the Atlantic crossing with time in the Mediterranean region – this means travelers coming from those regions have just one long-haul flight when cruising in this region.

Tips on Cruising the Mediterranean Region

These are my few major tips when you cruise the Mediterranean region:

  1. Carefully choose the right cruise line
  2. Choose the right size of ship
  3. Do not over schedule
  4. Carefully pick your excursion destinations
  5. Check the currency they use in the country you are going to

Best Places to visit

The following are the best ten ports we recommend you visit in the Mediterranean region:

  1. Barcelona
  2. Genoa
  3. Florence
  4. Monte Carlo
  5. Greek Islands
  6. Naples
  7. Tunis
  8. Rome
  9. Venice
  10. Malta

Sightseeing in Hong Kong

They say “A New York minute is a Hong Kong second”, this is a common quote you’ll hear from the expatriates who inhabit in this delightful city of about 7 million inhabitants, and you’ll see why this is so yourself. Hong Kong is full of life and energy; you’ll feel these things when you arrive in the city.

Things you can do, see or visit in Hong Kong- Shopping, dim sum, sightseeing, bars and restaurants, skylines and landmarks, beautiful street markets, boat and ferry cruises, and the list goes on and on like that. Needless to say, you’ll most likely not do or see everything here, but there are some experiences you must have to actually feel the Hong Kong vibe in you. For first time visitors or fifth-time visitors, here are some things you must never miss out on during your visit:

See the view from Victoria Peak

Taking in the view from Victoria Peak makes you vacation 100%, it is the city’s most popular attraction and always on every visitor’s itinerary. It’s 1,805 feet above sea level and a view from Victoria Peak allows for a view of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Victoria Harbor and the eight mountains of Kowloon (on very clear days).  We traveled here with some colleagues to celebrate our 10th anniversary as Mesa Painters.  There are different ways to get to the peak, but the classic and most conventional method is by taking a seven-minute ride on the Peak Tram- the steepest funicular railway in the world.

Eat dim sum

Dim sum literally means “touch your heart,” but it is a famous meal which consists of dumplings and some other dishes served on small plates or in steamer baskets. There are numerous places to order dim sum, but if you want the best you should go straight to Tim Ho Wan (the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world).

Take a ride on the Star Ferry

The Star Ferry transports 20 million riders across Victoria Harbor annually since 1888 and there is no sign of it ending anytime soon. Regardless of the fact that Hong Kong’s public transport system (MTR) is one of the most efficient and most recognized means to travel between Hong Kong and Kowloon, you should still opt for a ride on the Star Ferry.

Go to the beach

In about thirty minutes from the city center, you’ll discover some of the most beautiful and incredible beaches in the world, which you can reach by boat, public transportation or a taxi. Hong Kong is where you’ll find different kinds of beaches, if you want a more secluded beach experience, go to the pristine Tai Long Wan beach, although Shek O is the most popular beach option for most visitors who want to have fun.

Enjoy the moments in the park

Victoria Park located on the edge of Causeway Bay is the largest urban green space on the Hong Kong Island. You can also relax in the Hong Kong Park or Nan Lian Garden.
